How did your passion for Land Rovers start?
Doing work with my father using our Series 1 86″ on our smallholding as a child ignited the the passion with the smell of mud on the exhaust, the possibility of getting stuck and a touch of freedom. Over the years I bought my own first Land Rover, a Series 2a 88″, from Brian Bashall at Dunsfold in 1972, had a tatty but hard-working 1971 2 door Range Rover and ended up in business on my own in 1981 working with and on Land Rovers – call it a chapter of accidents!?
What was the first Land Rover you owned?
Series 2a SWB soft top.
How many Land Rovers have you owned?
More than I can count!
Do your Land Rovers have a name? If so, what is the name?
Rarely although the first Series 2a was called “Wandering Star” after the Lee Marvin song in Paint Your Wagon!
What is your most memorable Land Rover moment?
I am fortunate to have many to choose from but finishing the Kenyan Rhino Charge in 25th place out of 65 starters using a borrowed Series 2a in 1998 with a crew of friends who had all come out from the UK was pretty special.
What is your favourite accessory on your Land Rover and why?
Sandstorm canvas and camel hide seat covers which come from Kenya and are so much better than anything else I have seen.
Complete the sentence: My Land Rover has a Soul because…
it is a survivor of 16 Rhino Charges and has helped us raise over £150,000 for Rhino Ark over the years.!
